We are happy to inform you that one of our YERIATCs, Hamlet Melkumyan, is attending “Urban Spaces: Caucasian Places. Transformations in Capital Cities” workshop. The workshop is organised by Humboldt University Berlin and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, in September 21-24 2009.
H. Melkumyan will present the transformation tendencies in post Soviet Yerevan’s public spaces during the workshop: How urban changes (National and Urban Identity’s branding and Urban globalization, social segregation,) are lived symbolically and materially, how they are perceived and contested by different social groups in a capital city under transition? How these changes are reflected in public spaces and imaginative maps of the city and its citizens? What kind of practices of branding places are emerging in postsocialist cities? What are the similarities and differences in the reconstruction of urban spaces in the postsocialist capital cities.
